She askes Mr. Markham to write a few lines for her. She is writing an article about her experiences as the mistress of the Mansion. She wants to write about all the celebrities, she was priviledged to entertain. Since he is her favorite celebrity, the story would not be complete without him. She mentions her trip to California. Mr, and Mrs. Hobby hope that he will visit them in Ttexas again.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
